The Parade (what, you missed it!?)

Throughout the night and wee hours of Friday night/Saturday morning, about 12 artists labored over mysterious projects in the sculpture studio that seemed to have no correlation between them.( This was one of the experimental studios, the "Make A Parade" workshop, part of the 24 hour Art Marathon). As the dawn broke and the chill subsided, several faculty members, adjuncts, friends, grad and undergrads began to gather behind the FAB, and assemble into some ragtag group that called itself a parade. It was glorious in it's diversity of people, objects and modes of transportation. The 1st Annual Winter Arts Parade was initiated by artists in Floating Lab and Workingman Collectives and collaborators within AVT. The Parade was an effort to highlight community collaborations like parades, walkability within Fairfax and the performance/spectacle of art in public. The Parade walked/rode/ambled/pushed itself to downtown Fairfax where the artists rolled it up into a new gallery space called Point in Space Gallery off University drive. This is a must see but the links below will also give you an idea as to what the hell happened that night and mornin.

here's a quote from Sue Wrbican, also quoting Rebecca Solnit, "Taking a quote from Rebecca Solnit, "On foot, we stay connected," we hope to encourage walkability between Fairfax City and George Mason in an effort to change the public's perception of commuting and enrich the community through contemporary art."
