The Fate of Prof. Kirby Malone

As some of you might know, Professor Kirby Malone's contract has not been renewed and this spring will be his last semester teaching here unless someone high up the ladder intervenes. Some students who clearly have a fondness for the education they recieved from him have shown initiative to save his job and created an advocacy organization called Students for Quality Education. Click on it to see the FB profile and check out what at least 90 of you are doing to save a man's job and stand up for the education you are getting, props to them!

M.O.M Film Screening and Performance

----This event has been rescheduled for April 7th @ 4:30---

MIND OVER MATTER MUSIC OVER MIND invites you to join us for a special screening of Mike Sargent's film Luma 1.0 at George Mason University's Harris Theatre on Monday, March 2 at 4:30pm. Admission is free.

MIND OVER MATTER MUSIC OVER MIND (or MOM²) is a part of the emergent District of Noise experimental/improvised music community that has garnered considerable notoriety locally and nationally over the last eighteen months. Luma 1.0 is a dazzling foray into the foveal mysteries of hue and luminescence.

MOM² features GMU assistant professor Thomas Stanley; sound engineer and producer Chris Downing; and local radio personality Bobby Hill. Together, the trio manages to meld found and formed sound into evolving aural tapestries which, in synergy with Luma 1.0, offer a refreshing hiatus from normal waking state consciousness and provide an aperture into unprecedented dimensions of human experience.

This GMU debut of Luma 1.0 will be a return engagement for MOM² and is not too be missed.

The Parade (what, you missed it!?)

Throughout the night and wee hours of Friday night/Saturday morning, about 12 artists labored over mysterious projects in the sculpture studio that seemed to have no correlation between them.( This was one of the experimental studios, the "Make A Parade" workshop, part of the 24 hour Art Marathon). As the dawn broke and the chill subsided, several faculty members, adjuncts, friends, grad and undergrads began to gather behind the FAB, and assemble into some ragtag group that called itself a parade. It was glorious in it's diversity of people, objects and modes of transportation. The 1st Annual Winter Arts Parade was initiated by artists in Floating Lab and Workingman Collectives and collaborators within AVT. The Parade was an effort to highlight community collaborations like parades, walkability within Fairfax and the performance/spectacle of art in public. The Parade walked/rode/ambled/pushed itself to downtown Fairfax where the artists rolled it up into a new gallery space called Point in Space Gallery off University drive. This is a must see but the links below will also give you an idea as to what the hell happened that night and mornin.

here's a quote from Sue Wrbican, also quoting Rebecca Solnit, "Taking a quote from Rebecca Solnit, "On foot, we stay connected," we hope to encourage walkability between Fairfax City and George Mason in an effort to change the public's perception of commuting and enrich the community through contemporary art."
